When I received the topic to writing critical essay, I thought with the two different comparisons between the art and the design. The first difference is between the aesthetic and the function, and the second difference is between the beauty and the general idea such as desirability in community with artist or designer’s works. Thus, I was so confusing about the fact intended meaning with the saying by Michal Brady. Anyway, I realized the meaning in our class today. Maybe the meaning is between the aesthetic and the function because today we read the article “GOOD DESIGN IN THE DIGITAL AGE”. In my guess, our teacher, Mark may have wanted to tell to help our understanding the meaning of essay topic with such the useful information, AIGA journal. Thus, I thought about the article’s purpose which what is talking.

 To summarize with the journal, the good design is not just visual like form, function and materials but also engage the user and community by humanizing technology. As well as the important conclusion of the good design is the balance of some qualities with various personal situations respectively – Usefulness, Usability and Desirability. To explain, firstly, usefulness means that the trust product has content and purpose what is its use and the reason why useful for me. Secondly, the usability, designers need to build consumers’ trust that product must be usable in first instance especially, and understand needs of customers and limitation of users as their common sense, knowledge of body and mind in order to engage user’s several feeling such as grace, elegance, excitement and marvel. Lastly, the desirability means that the designers should need a “voice” as comfortable feeling and identifying with products when consumers in different cultural experiences each select one product.

 I think that it is exactly right, even if the article was written ten years ago. However, when I read the article, I thought more and more about what is good design in latest perspective. In my opinion, nowadays, the good design is playing another role significantly in our society.

These days several products present consumers fresh life style.  Already the technology has developed, and now various kinds of products tend to lead the new attitude of contemporary. Look iphone, using multiple technology every day, some people became to have the life style of  the iphone in their spare time, the relationship, the way of searching information, and even the fashion style. Now, I think that designers who make good design should have even expectation their consumer’s life style while they meet  fresh products designed such as furniture, clothes, mobile, computer and so on. Moreover, the expectation will be based on consumer’s various needs and trends, because people’s life tend to influence from new things with unconsciousness little by little*

These  days i have become to  interest about surrealists, and since then  i visited the babican, The  Surreal House exhibition, i would like to think to connect between the surrealism and the anti- art. Few years ago i have seen a movie which is a documentary in the film festival of seoul in Korea,  ’LOVE OTHER’ . As far as i can remember, the movie is about Claude Cahun and  jewish  women who is the sister and lovers . They lived  in England under the rule of the Nazis among  the World War II.  They may have different father each one, and sister had become feeling of love each other, so they made house in the conturyside and then,  had expressed their the sense of arts in there. Their works were paintings, poems and photograpy, but i have a great impression in their phtography espacially. The movie showed their acting about themselvese strangely in doumentary genre. they dressed up maleness and strange make -up.  They are opposed to the Nazis, so they noted some peper and then inserted into newspaper. They  eventually went  to the jail unfortunately , but they didn’t stop with their disobedience with their art works. Finally, one of them died in there. At that time, the movie gived me deeply thinking and various impressions. i would like note  memorable sentence in the movie

i really want to get this! it is so simple , clean and chic!  I had decided before leaving Korea. In the UK would like to buy a bike, especailly ”fixie” ,but i realized London is dangerous for me riding bicycle in the road. i don’t used to this city yet.

When i was in korea, i designed a bike in my company, benetton.  At that time, i concerned only bike.

i want to be this lifestyle with riding bicycle in london!

The Power of Ten Containers : The Make Crate

To explain, as part of the university’s Power of Ten summer show series, three reconditioned crates have docked in the middle of Elephant and Castle to act as temporary workshops and interactive spaces with  a shipping container. The contaner booth has differen topic everyday.  Today the booth became ” ELEPHANT PORTRAIT BOOT”  with students , rhe BA photographic course in LCC

Hee Jung and me try this performance exhibition because today is our first meeting day, so we would like to keep our first meeting. The booth gives us free portraits photo by a camera.

i think that its meaning whice planed this exhibition is good for relationship between shcool(LCC)) and town( Elephant Catsle ).  This portrait booth is part of Elephant Vanishes, a project that is documenting and recording the history of the area and the changes taking place. thus, they want to capture a moment  with the people(individual, groups, family & friend) who bring the Elephant to life. the Elephant and Castle is rapidly changing and this project aims to record the Elephant as it was, it and in the future.

I really love MARTIN MARGIELA”!

i am allways watching the development of events with the MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA. The exhabition was also never dissapointed  me.  MAISON MARTIN MARGIELA is one of contemporary fashion’s most influential and enigmatic designers.  i really love their point whice have tried  how we make cloth the body and ideals of human bueaty in the best basic thinking and metrials. One of the most remarkable characteristics of them is its consistent use of white, various white color! , all possible shadows of white, interiors of its offices, shops and showrooms.

The exhibition  shows  they have explored during the 20 years of its various cooections, fashion shows, presentations and events worldwide.

MA INNOVATION MANAGEMENT EXHIBITION▼

it was interesting.  ”innovation” modified “innovashone” haha^^”

My main course start from September is ma innovation management in saint martin, so i was expected the exhibition of innovation management. However, when i saw the exhibition, i was disappointed the course.  Maybe, since I did not participate in the main reference,  i couldn’t understand  exactly  the concepts of graduate works respectively with their postcards and conceptual wording on the tags. -_-”
